It is a normal routine for the police to avoid registration of First Information Report (FIR). The victims have to go through a great ordeal, jest to get their complaints registered. It is to be noted that the FIR is the first step in the legal process and without it no further steps can be taken. The delay in registration also leads to complications in investigations and affect the outcome of the case. It is important that a proper mechanism is put in place by the relevant authorities, to keep a check on this practice and discourage the police from adopting it. HASSAN BASHIR, Islamabad, November 15.
