Five notorious outlaws were killed when their accomplices ambushed a police team, bring them from Kot Lakhpat and Camp Jail Lahore.
Kasur DPO Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the incident occurred near Pakki Haweli on main Ferozpur Road in the remit of Mustafa Abad Police Monday evening.
He said that a team of Ganda Singhwala Police led by SI Phool Muhammad was escorting the outlaws from Kot Lakhpat and Camp Jail Lahore. "They were being brought for investigation of some cases registered at the Ganda Singhwala Police. All of sudden 8 to 10 accused, riding a black coloured corolla car and two Honda 125 motorcycles ambushed the police team to get their accomplices free," he informed.
He said that they got released the four accused from the police and also snatched a rifle from a cop before fleeing the scene.
News about the incident was aired through the police wireless system and soon the SHOs of Mustafa Abad, Ganda Singhwala, Saddr and A Division police started chasing the fleeing criminals. As soon as the police came across the outlaws near Charewan, the accused started indiscriminate firing on them. The police personnel took shelter and the firing continued for some time. The DPO claimed that as the firing stopped and the police went ahead, they found five outlaws including the four got released, were killed by their accomplices.
Their other accomplices managed to escape under the darkness.
The deceased dacoits were identified as Abdul Jabbar alias Bao, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Ashraf alias Qilli, Bashart alias Basharti and identity of the fifth could not be ascertained.
DPO Rizvi said that all the accused were involved in more than 60 cases of robbery, dacoity and murder in Lahore and Kasur districts. The police have recovered the snatched official rifle, a Kalashnikov and other firearms from their possessions.
The police shifted the dead bodies to DHQ Hospital for autopsy and started further investigation.
Meanwhile, some people at the hospital were seen chanting slogans in favour the DPO. They also lauded his efforts for purging the district of criminals.
