Hyderabad: A three-year-old nursery student of Star Kids Premium School in Indian state Andhra Pradesh’s city of Hyderabad died when her head got stuck in the school elevator on Tuesday morning.

The girl child Zaina Jaffrey is the daughter of Hussain and Tahseen Fatima from Saidabad. Hussain is working in the middle east.

The mishap occurred at 9.30 am when Zaina along with seven other students and a teacher got into the elevator at the ground floor of the school.

"As the students were jostling for space and pulling each other's bags, Zaina's hand got stuck in the grilled doors of the elevator. As some one had pressed the button for the above floors, the elevator started moving and Zaina's hand and head were pressed between the elevator and the first floor concrete roof," Malakpet inspector A Ganga Reddy said.

Panicked children and school staff ran out of the elevator as soon as it halted at the first floor and it took more than half an hour to remove the body of the child from the elevator.

Police registered a case of negligence against the school management under section 304-a of the IPC.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot to control the situation. They questioned the school principal and others.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and other local residents gathered in front of the school and held a protest demanding stern action against its management.
