Govt orders audit of LB institutions' funds

SIALKOT

The Punjab government has decided to conduct audit of the funds and development works of the local bodies institutions in Gujranwala Division before handing over their charge to the newly elected representatives after their elections.
According to officials, the Local Government Department has formulated teams to start such audits in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts and 21 tehsils. They said that legal action would be taken against the officials concerned if the irregularities were found.
According to the election schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the LB polls were held in Gujrat district on October 31, 2015 while the polls will be held in Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad on November 19,2015 and in Sialkot and Narowal districts on December 05.
The officials added that the government had decided to conduct the special audit before handing over the charge of the all the local bodies institutions to the newly elected public representatives.
The provincial government has also issued directives to the heads of the local bodies to keep their records updated in this regard. The special audit teams are waiting for the go ahead from the provincial government to start the special audit.
