LAHORE - Mohsen Zafar of Gymkhana captured the 1st Swiss Omega Golf amateur title while Mrs Sameea Javed Ali lifted the title in ladies category here at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Monday.

During the course of the final 18 holes, Mohsen had four birdies, two in succession on holes 7 and 8 and again another two in sequence on holes 15 and 16. Out of the other 14 holes, he had regulation pars on 11 holes. As for the hiccups, he had a double bogie on the 11th hole and bogies on the 4th and 8th holes which did not cause any severe damage as the birdie savings made up for the lost strokes. Chief sponsor of the championship Shafiq Ahmed was delighted with the quality of golf demonstrated in general and especially the effort of Mohsen.

Runner-up Wazir Ali was equally impressive in application of golfing skills and seemed to be putting up a formidable challenge but somehow the missed putt on the last hole let him down and he had to concede the Omega title to Mohsen. Sameer Iftikhar earned the third position.

In the race for dominance amongst seniors, the winner gross was Shoaib Bokhari, while amongst the veterans, Tariq Nasrullah was champion. As for the ladies, Mrs Sameea Javed Ali turned out to be the best one in ladies section by winning the best gross.

At the conclusion of the championship, Acting Ambassador of Switzerland Roger Kull awarded prizes to the top ones in a grand ceremony arranged by Swiss Omega Watches.
