Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the petition seeking orders for staying holding of Local Bodies (LB) polls in Gujranwala. The court remarked “the LB polls are taking place after years. We cannot impede the process of grant of their rights to the people. How can we give orders for stopping the LB polls when only one day is left in holding these polls. We cannot accept the plea in the prevailing situation.

If plea is accepted today then the polls will be stopped and miseries of the people will be increased. How can the new ballot papers be printed. A 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing today. The lady counsel for the petitioner Abuzar said injustice has been done with them as her client nomination papers have been rejected.

Polls are stopped and order be issued for printing new ballot papers. Justice Qazi Faiz Essa remarked “We have already said now only one day is left and how the ballot papers will be printed. CJP remarked “decision was given on October 12, 2015 and you approached court on November, 11, 2015.

This reflects you did not want to file petition. You saw that others are getting relief so you filed application. Only one day is left more practically. Justice Azmat remarked “we will not stop polls. The court dismissed the petition.
