Islamabad: Senate of Pakistan is striving to improve inter-parliamentary relations around the world with all Parliaments and especially with Parliamentary Institutions in China.

The democratic institutions in Pakistan were gaining strength which can be gauged from smooth transition of power from one civilian government to another. This was stated by Chairman Senate of Pakistan Mian Raza Rabbani who called on Zheng Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress (NPC) here at the Great Hall of the People on 16th November, 2015. At the meeting, Zheng welcomed the delegation and appreciated the existing all weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries which has been further strengthened by the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier to Pakistan and now by Chairman Senate’s visit.

Raza Rabbani emphasized the economic gains that China has achieved during the last decade and the new vistas of friendship and cooperation that have further been opened up together with Pakistan.

Rabbani thanked the Chinese side for their support to Pakistan. He stressed on maintaining regular contacts between parliamentarians to promote parliamentary democracy not only in Pakistan but also as a tool of reinforcing Pakistan China friendship. Rabbani thanked china for presenting a detailed expose of China’s economic history and achievements in the world arena.

He said that the in-depth understanding of the problems being faced by Pakistan indicated a deep rooted mutual friendship. China is a role model for third world countries and Pakistan could learn a lot from Chinese experience.

He also reassured commitment in the fight against terrorism. Pakistan looked forward to a new era of prosperity dawning in the shape of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with a climate of political stability and sense of security. Special measures for protection of Chinese workers in Pakistan were being adopted. We have always supported China on core issues and are a staunch supporter of one China policy, he maintained.

He thanked China for its continued support on the Kashmir issue. Our future has a tremendous potential for growth through political and economic cooperation and the Gwadar port possessed a tremendous potential. The economic growth of both the countries is intertwined through Pakistan – China Economic corridor, he maintained. The Chairman Senate invited the host and other parliamentarians to visit Pakistan as guests of Senate of Pakistan.
