LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) accepted a petition on Thursday for hearing, seeking the extension of the incumbent Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

According to reports, the LHC accepted the petition that cited the ‘prominent success’ of operation Zarb-e-Azb as the main reason for the COAS’ extension.

The petitioner - Ghazi Ilmuddin Advocate - pleaded to the court that the ongoing war against terrorism under the COAS has culminated into stability and peace in the country and to ensure the further ‘progression and continuity’, it was indispensable for the COAS to avail the extension in his tenure.

The Army Chief is due to retire on Nov 28 this year and Gen Rashad Mahmood, who is the existing Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, will be retiring a day prior to the Army Chief, on Nov 27.
