Karachi  - Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf lawmaker Khurram Sher Zaman on Wednesday submitted a resolution in the Sindh Assembly demanding to rename Altaf Hussain University in Hyderabad after Abdus Sattar Edhi.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Dec 09, 2014, bills were approved by the Sindh Assembly, according to which two universities were to be built: one in Karachi and one in Hyderabad, named after MQM founder Altaf Hussain . The bills had been tabled by MQM lawmakers Faisal Sabzwari, Syed Sardar Ahmad, Khawaja Izharul Hasan, Aamir Moin Pirzada and others.

Talking to media after submitting the resolution, Zaman said that he did not want his children to get a degree from the university, named after a person who had used extremely derogatory words against Pakistan. He said that services rendered by Abdul Sattar Edhi were not hidden from anyone, and therefore no one would oppose this move. He said that PTI’s demand was not irrelevant as the university was to be built on the provincial government’s land.

The assembly would meet on Thursday (today).
