PESHAWAR - Turkish teachers, their Pakistani colleagues and parents of students yesterday held a protest demonstration against the government decision of not extending visa to Turkish teachers.
The protesting teachers, students and parents were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their only demand of extension in their visas in Pakistan. The annoyed teachers and infuriated parents, raising slogans, gathered in front of the press club.
While talking to media persons on the occasion, a teacher of the Pak-Turk School and colleague of Turkish educators, Jawad Ahmad, said there were 13 Turkish teachers in two Pak-Turk schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He averred the schools were playing a constructive role in building the future of hundreds of students across the province.
Ahmad said the recent failed attempt against the Turkish government had also darkened the future of the Turk schools, Turkish teachers and hundreds of Pakistani students as well. He said now Pakistani government was also not extending visas of the Turkish teachers working in two schools of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for unknown reasons.
The protesting parents termed it an unwise decision of the government and urged both the governments of Pakistan and Republic of Turkey to stop victimising innocent teachers and give them extension in their visas. They added teachers had no link with any organisation; rather they were spreading the light of knowledge and building nations.
They appealed to the Ministry of Interior and the Turkish government to avoid victimising teachers and extend their visas in Pakistan.
