10 more high-rise buildings sealed

Islamabad - Capital Development Authority on Thursday sealed 10 more high-rise buildings constructed illegally in Sector E-11, an official said.

The operation against illegal construction entered into the second day and will be continued, said the official.

The operation was led by Director Building Control –II while a number of officials from Enforcement, BCS and other concerned formations participated in it. On this occasion, senior special magistrate of CDA, representatives of ICT and contingent of Islamabad police was present.

The 10 buildings which were sealed included Maridian Heights, Tuba Heights, Tuba Heights-II, Mustafa Tower, Prime Heights, Awan Arcade, Qurtaba Heights, Apolo Heights and Islamabad Heights while two remaining blocks of Capital Residencia were also sealed.

Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz said that all constructions carried out in the surroundings of the Capital City would be streamlined in accordance with CDA Zoning Regulations which will enhance the beauty of the city.

He said that for the first time action is being taken on such a large scale so that development of the federal capital could be carried out in accordance with the master plan in a true sense.

He further added that the Islamabad is the only city of the country which has signed Green Charter of United Nations so that beauty of the federal capital could be enhanced but the remedy of the damage done could be ensured.

Therefore, the action is being taken in all those zones where construction activities are prohibited. He said that action in sector E-11 would be continued.

In the meanwhile, CDA has warned sponsors of all such projects to stop development work immediately and submit requisite documents permissible under rules and regulations to obtain formal approval/NOC from CDA, failing which illegal action will be taken by the Authority.CDA has also warned general public in their own interest to refrain from sale/purchase in any projects of sector E-11 without prior verification from CDA.

Experts call for steps against obesity

 Pakistan is ranked 9th out of 188 countries in terms of obesity, experts said on Thursday.  The 4th consecutive live laparoscopic international bariatric surgery symposium was held at the PIMS Hospital Islamabad.

This symposium was attended by majority of leading bariatric surgeons and 200 surgeons from all over the country attended the live bariatric surgery symposium. BMI of Pakistan is above 30 for 14 percent of men and women on a global level. It is seen that very fourth obese person develops type two DM.

Diabetic people are more prone to CVS diseases, Diabetes, Hypercholesterolemia, osteoarthritis, & cancer. This soaring number is placing a heavy burden on our health care system and excess body weight is estimated to have caused 3.4 million deaths in 2010. Health experts said that treatment of obesity starts with comprehensive lifestyle management that includes diet, physical activity & behaviour modification.   There are countless non surgical weight loss strategies available.

Most of them are ineffective & short term particularly to those who are morbid obese. Bariatric surgery comes as a ray of hope for these people. Common bariatric operations done all over the world are MGB/OAGB, Sleeve Gastrectomy & RYGBP.  The symposium was attended by Dr Mumtaz Maher, Dr Aatif Inam, Dr Imran abbas, Dr farooq Afzal, Dr Ghulam Siddique, Dr Shahzad Aslam, Dr Saeed Qureshi, Dr Arif Malik and Dr Tanseer.
