KASUR - Three notorious dacoits wanted by the police in 108 different cases of heinous crime were shot dead by ‘accomplices’ during a ‘shootout’ with Pattoki City police near Jagowala area here the other day. According to police, two in-custody dacoits - Jahangir alias Jahangiri and Kashif alias Kashi, involved in 84 cases of heinous crime, were driven for recovery of arms. On the way back, at least six gunmen opened fire on the police party near Jagowala to get the two dacoits released from police custody. They also snatched a rifle from a cop. The in-custody dacoits were killed by firing of their accomplices. Meanwhile, a large contingent of Pattoki City police also reached the spot and there occurred a fierce gun battle between police and dacoits. When the firing stopped, police found a dacoit in critical condition. He identified himself as Akhtar alias Sohni. He said he was shot at and injured by his accomplices who managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness. Police recovered a rifle, pistol and a motorbike from the crime scene. The injured was shifted to hospital but he died on the way. Police said that Sohni was wanted in 28 different cases. Police formed special teams for arrest of the fleeing accused.
