ISLAMABAD - While the opposition has requested to immediately call the National Assembly on its requisition, the government side might ignore it and summon a regular session after ten days. The requisition submitted by the PML-N might not be entertained and regular/scheduled session of the National Assembly be preferred, sources said.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the third time is demanding the National Assembly Secretariat to issue production order of opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif and summon session of the National Assembly on its requisition. Senior lawmakers of PML-N have formally submitted both the applications in the National Assembly Secretariat other day (Thursday).
The National Assembly Secretariat, the sources said, would issue the production order for leader of the opposition Shehbaz Sharif but would give preference to calling regular National Assembly expected on November 26.
Talking to The Nation, PML-N senior lawmaker Muhammad Pervaiz Malik said that the government side should immediately call session on their requisition. “Lot of issues need to be discussed in the parliament, so we (opposition) want government to summon session of the National Assembly immediately,” said Malik.
About the production order of Shehbaz Sharif, he said, there was a clear cut provision in the law to produce the member of the National Assembly in the house. “We will keep sending application for production order till the opposition leader remains in the custody,” he said.
Shehbaz, who is Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly as well as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, is currently in the NAB custody in connection with Ashiana Housing Scheme scam.
About publishing White Paper over the performance of PTI government, he said, the opposition would publish it soon. However, the PML-N MNA was not sure when this white paper would be published or read out by opposition leader in the coming NA session.
Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif has twice been produced to attend the NA proceedings under the production order. NA Speaker Asad Qaiser has once summoned one-day session over the requisition of opposition.
Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif is expected to deliver a speech on the hundred days performance of PTI’s government in the mid of the upcoming session of the lower house.
The PML-N has already hinted to publish a ‘White Paper’ over the performance of incumbent government in its first 100 days. The legal experts viewed that there was a need for a fresh ‘production order’ for every session to produce any MNA who is imprisoned or under custody. The former ruling party (PML-N) will have to submit a fresh application for each session of the National Assembly to produce their Shehbaz Sharif.
