THE Federal Government has held Punjab government responsible for flour crisis in the country. Punjab government has been blamed for causing wheat shortage by banning the supply of wheat to other provinces. This was stated by Agricultural Development Commissioner of the Federal Government, Qadir Baksh Baloch, in an interview with BBC on Thursday. The Commissioner said that transportation of wheat or any other eatables from one province to the other or even from one union council to the other could not be banned under the law. He maintained that gross need of wheat of the NWFP is 4 million tons and the province faced a shortage of 2 million. Similarly, Baloachistan faces a shortage of 500,000 tons of wheat, but the Punjab government is creating hurdles in supply of wheat to these provinces, he added. He also opined that that atta crisis in Pakistan had been caused by mismanagement related to the wheat crop and not the fall in the produce. He also said that Pakistan had always been facing a failure in checking wheat smuggling to other countries.
