Loadshedding blamed for minor girl's death

LAHORE - A 3-year-old minor girl, who had disappeared late night on Wednesday, was recovered dead from a manhole near her house in Harbancepura area on Thursday morning. A large number of local residents including the victim's family gathered on the main road and staged a strong protest demonstration against the incident accusing the Wapda and city district government authorities of innocent killing. The family was of the view that the minor girl fell in the manhole due to unscheduled loadshedding in the area. Uncovered manhole and unscheduled loadshedding were the main causes behind the death of the baby girl, they said. "She can be rescued as all the local residents were doing efforts for her search but we all failed due to loadshedding late night on Wednesday", Ali Hussain, father of the girl told the police. The girl identified as Alshuba, 3, left her house to play in the street due to loadshedding, quoting the family police said. After some hours the family started searching her when Alshuba did not return. Locals also joined the family and searched her everywhere in the area. They made announcements in the local mosques and informed the police about the hours long disappearance of the baby but to no avail. All the locals went to sleep but the girl's parents and some other family members continued their efforts till Thursday morning. The locals again joined the victim family early on Thursday and ultimately found the baby lying dead in the manhole situated near to their house. The local residents and the family got infuriated over the unscheduled loadshedding, which caused an innocent death. While protesting on the road they chanted slogans against the Wapda and CDG authorities saying that uncovered manhole and unscheduled loadshedding were main cause of the girl's death. Police reached the spot and dispersed the protesters assuring them proper action against the responsible officials.
