KARACHI - Six policemen were suspended for negligence during the violence at the Malir Jail violence which claimed lives of four prisoners on Wednesday. Meanwhile, three police officials have been promoted to the next rank for showing extraordinary performance on this occasion. Jail sources said that DSP Jail Qamar Raza Zadi was included among the suspended officials for poor performance during the violence. Jail administration has sent 322 prisoners to different prisons of Sindh. A prisoner Kamran alias Kamo was critically injured during the incident and shifted to the Civil Hospital where his family said court had ordered his release but jail administration kept him in custody and demanded Rs 5,000/- to set him free. When he could not pay the money, they beat him harshly and thrown him out of the jail. Meanwhile, dead of deceased prisoners are still present in the Eidhi Morgue because their families have not been so far informed about their death while relatives of a prisoner Gulab Khan have received his body after autopsy. Doctors said that Khan was not killed due to firing because they had not found any sign of bullet on his dead body. They further said that he died of brutal physical torture. Sources said that Gulab Khan was killed by the inmates on which jailer took action against the prisoners and sent them into solitary confinement which was the cause of Wednesday violence. While family of deceased Gulab Khan claimed that he had good relations with his fellow prisoners and alleged that jail administration was responsible for his killing. However, rest of the three prisoners were killed during firing. Meanwhile, the jail administration has registered separate cases against the prisoners responsible for violence. PPI adds: A high-level meeting at Sindh Home Department Thursday decided to constitute a three-member committee to prove into the causes of riot of prisoners at Malir Jail. The meeting attended by Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza, Minister for Anti-Narcotics Agha Taimore, Advisor to CM for Jails Gul M Jakhrani, Home Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan, IGP Sindh Babar Khattak, Special Secy Home Kamran Dost, CCPO Wasim Ahmed, IG Jails M Yamin Khan, DIG East AD Khawaja and other officials, who reviewed the reports regarding the mutiny. The 3-member body headed by the Advisor G M Jakhrani, would conduct probe into the incident to know causes and facts of mutiny in Malir Jail, in which some prisoners died and others including some jail personnel sustained severe injuries.
