KARACHI - The Pakistan Sports Board has suspended the affiliation of the Pakistan Boxing Federation for not holding its quadrennial elections on time in last July, it was reliably learnt here Thursday. In a message sent to the PBF officials recently, the PSB stated that as the Federation failed to hold elections on July 25 2008 as scheduled, it has been suspended and that the new elections of the body would be held under the supervision of POA/PSB at a time and date to be announced later. The PBF is the fourth national federation which has earned the wrath pf the PSB and been disaffiliated for breaching PSB/POA rules. Only recently the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association were suspended and were restored only after it met all the conditions laid down by the PSB. According to details available here, the PBF had held its elections on July 24, 2004 and the office bearers held the posts for a four year term. The next elections were due on July 25, 2008 but for some technical reasons the PBF could not hold elections on due date. The major reason for delay in election was non completion of audited accounts of the body. Without the presentation of audited accounts at the annual general body, the elections could not be held. The company given the task to prepare audited accounts has promised to complete the paper some time before first week of November. In the light of this fact, the PBF has set November 18 at the date for holding elections at Karachi. Though the PSB and the POA were informed about the date of elections yet the PSB decided to suspend the body for not holding elections in time. In the meantime, it has been learnt that the current secretary of the PBF Shakeel Durrani would not contest elections due to personal reasons. It was learnt that Shakeel Durrani has decided to devote time to his personal business. However, a former official of the PBF disclosed that Durrani saw no charm and attraction in the office after his father-in-law Prof. Anwar Chaudhry lost office in the world body. In the past Shakeel Durrani was having good time traveling all across the globe with his father-in-law who headed the world body. But lately Prof. Chaudhry was defeated losing not only his office at world level but at Asian level too. Once Prof. Chaudhry was out of office, his globetrotting also stopped which also affected Shakeel Durrani. Prof. Anwar Chaudhry who is around 80 plus year old has been confined to a wheel chair for the last two years due to weakness associated with old age is said to be interested in keeping a position in the PBF which had remained his life for the last five decades. The PBF is stated to be adamant to hold its elections on the set date on November 18 without caring for hoots whether those were recognised by the PSB or the POA.
