Top seed Leonte out of ITF Future Tennis

ISLAMABAD - Hsin-Han Lee from China Taipei, Mikhail Vasiliev from Russia, Maniel Bains from Great Britain and Adrian Sikora from Slovakia reached the top-four stage of the ongoing PSO ITF Pakistan Futures International Tennis Championships on Thursday here at PTF Tennis Complex. The championship saw a major upset on Thursday when 5th seed Lee from Chinese Taipei thrashed top seed Bogdan Leonte from Romania in straight sets 2-0 on the clay surface. The final score-line was 6-3 and 6-4. In the first set the score was leveled at 3-3 games, as both the players held their respective service. The winner succeeded to gain lead at 5-3 by breaking 8th game of his opponent Leonte in which he hit two double faults. Lee won the first set at 6-3 by holding his service with the help of two aces. Later on, in the second set Lee built up the wining lead 3-1 by breaking 1st game of top seeded player Bogdan Leonte. Lee won the second set at 6-4 and qualified for the semifinal of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Pakistan Future Tennis Championship 2008. Meanwhile, Maniel Bains from Great Britain, who outplayed fourth seed Aqeel Khan day before yesterday at the same venue, continued his wining strike and beat 7th seed Filenkov Alexei from Russia in similar style in straight sets 2-0 at 6-3 and 6-2. He won the first set at 6-3 by breaking 8th game of his rival Filenkov. He won the second set by breaking 1st and 7th game of second set by hitting excellent strokes. Andrina Sikora of Slovakia was also in excellent form and eliminated 8th seed Alekseenko Vadim in straight sets at 6-3 and 6-3. The 3rd seed Russian tennis player Mikhail Vasiliev thrashed 6th seed Feaver James from Ukraine in well-contested three sets affair. Pakistani duo Muhammadi Jibran and Asim Shafik also faced a humiliating defeat in the quarter-finals of the men's double fixture of the international tennis showpiece by losing their match against the China Taipei's pair Chen I-Ta and Lee Hsin-Han in straight games 2-0. Jibran and Asim could not deliver and their opponents enjoyed an easy victory as both local players could hold one service in the first set and two in the second set. The final score-line was 6-1 and 6-3. The PTF was expecting remarkable performance from the local players in these competitions but unfortunately, none of them could save the blushes of the high ups of the federation.
