11 killed on eve of PS-94 by-poll

KARACHI - At least eleven people were killed and over one dozen others got injured in separate incidents of violence across the city on the eve of by-election in PS-94 constituency, Orangi Town, Karachi. According to details, two people were killed in Bukhari Colony in Orangi Town when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at a passenger minibus near Bakra Piri. Two other people also got injured in the same incident, DSP Majeed Abbas said, adding that the deceased Zafar Iqbal and Qaiser were Urdu speakers and residents of Orangi Town. Similarly, a sweet shop was attacked by unidentified motorcyclists in the Timber Market of Baldia Town. The shop was packed with customers when two unidentified people opened fire at them. The owner of the shop Waqas alias Vicky, 26, son of Razzak, belonging to Ghanchi community was killed, whereas three customers got injured in the incident. Meanwhile, a man was killed when a restaurant was attacked near Maskan Chowrangi within the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Police Station. Station House Officer (SHO) Kansan Dean said Al-Sufiyan Zaeqa Hotel was attacked by unknown motorcyclists who escaped after the firing. Owner of the restaurant, Allah Daad, 30, killed in the incident. He hailed from Quetta. Similarly, a man was killed in a firing incident in Ghazi Goth. The victim was identified as Azeem Baig son of Kareem Baig. In yet another incident, a man was killed at Dhobi Ghat area, Orangi Town. Incidents of firing were also witnessed at Banaras Chowk, Sohrab Goth, Safora Goth, Pehlwan Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Kati Pahari, North Nazimabad and other parts of the city. Police said many people got injured during the incidents of firing. Meanwhile, five persons were killed when unidentified motorcyclists targeted the gathering of the people who were sitting outside their homes due to power suspension in Rasheedabad within the limits of Baldia Police Station. SHO Rao Khalid said the victims belonged to Pakhtoon and Hazara communities. They also targeted police when it reached the site to take the bodies away from there, the officer added. The victims were identified as Mohammad Bashir, 40, Kashif, 17, Saif, 20, Akbar, 70, and Fayyaz, 30.
