PPP to avoid policy of confrontation

LAHORE Pakistan Peoples Party City chapter has decided not to adopt policy of confrontation with any other political party and to continue President Asif Alis policy of reconciliation. It was decided in a meeting of the PPP leaders with Samina Khalid Ghurki, party president Lahore chapter, on Saturday. The meeting also decided to launch a new survey campaign for providing assistance to the needy through Benazir Income Support Programme to alleviate poverty. It further decided to activate the its workers to rejuvenate the party. It further decided that the process of various party tiers in the City would be completed soon. PPP City chapter leaders including Akbar Khan, Hafiz Akhlaq, Afnan Butt, Faiza Malik, Zahid Zulfikar, Tahir Khalique and others attended the meeting. Watan Cards worth Rs16b distributed: Kaira Punjab Minister for Finance, Planning & Development, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that government has distributed Rs16 billion among the flood affectees through Watan Cards for which Rs8 billion are being provided by federal government and Rs8 billion by the Punjab government. During a meeting with a delegation of students and NGOs at his residence on Saturday, he said that the process of early compensation of Rs20,000 would be completed by the end of October and after that the government would provide Rs80,000 per family for construction of houses. He said that the process to provide compensation of Rs20,000 to each family of flood affectees has been accelerated and the provision of Watan Cards to flood affectees would be improved further so that flood victims could get aid timely. He said that computerised identity cards and Watan Cards were being issued to the affectees within 48 hours of the entry of their data in Nadra centres. Nadra centres are working in all affected areas and people should enter their data in these centres, while the number of these centres would also be increased in the affected areas keeping in view the requirement of the areas. He said that more than 3,50,000 Watan Cards had been issued so far. Tanvir appreciated the performance of staff at Nadra centres and said that due to their good performance, timely distribution of Watan Cards was made possible.
