HEAD MARALA (Sialkot) - Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan Saturday promised that the PPP would sweep the next general elections in Punjab, ousting the provinces incumbent rulers from power with the votes of the masses. He also expressed the hope that Punjab would soon become a stronghold of the PPP. Addressing a large public meeting at village Dhalleywali near Head Marala, after inaugurating a Sui gas supply project, he assured the people that the PPP govt while ensuring continuation of sustainable democracy in the country would not allow anyone to derail the process, as he urged the politicians to shun their differences and unite for promoting true democratic norms. Pointing to the deep roots within the masses, which the PPP enjoys across Pakistan, he said the party fully believed in 'Democracy is the Best Revenge as Shaheed Benazir Bhutto never taught victimising the opponents. Awan said the PPP leadership was striving hard to accomplish the task of a democratic and developed Pakistan for which the party leaders had even sacrificed their lives. No other party could match the PPP in the sacrifices it had made for the democracy and the people, he remarked. He said power was a part of politics but the PPP had faith in the struggle for the masses without any discrimination, adding that the govt was following the vision of Shaheed Benazir. The federal minister said the political actors and orphans must realise that Pakistan was a country of 170 million people and not a subsidiary of any international bank, adding, The PPP government has been formed by countrymen who are ready to foil any conspiracy against the democratic set up. Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan vowed to continue the fight against terrorism and save the innocent lives. She was very critical of those levelling unfounded allegations that the government was supporting feudalism in the country. These elements have forgotten that it was the PPP which brought the workers into the Parliament, she asserted. Firdous termed the devastating floods as an opportunity to 'make a new Pakistan, saying the govt would accomplish the job.
