LAHORE Pakistans junior tennis hope Samir Iftikhar avenged his singles quarter-final defeat to world number 140th Lenz Julian by beating him in the doubles final of the ITF G4 Junior World Ranking Tournament held at Aviation club Dubai from October 11 to 16. Teaming with Jannis Kahlke of Germany, Samir upset top seeded India and German pair of Bava Haden and Lenz Julian 6-2, 7-6 to lift the doubles title. Samir and Kahlke displayed brilliant tennis with powerful return of serves and net play to oust the top seeds and won the first set 6-2. The Indo-German pair put up strong resistance in the second set and got two set points at 5-6 on Samirs serves who later saved with two aces and won the second set in a tie-break. This is Samirs fourth title on the ITF Junior Ranking circuit. He is Pakistans second junior to achieve this feat. The Pak-German duo had earlier in the semifinal beat third seed German duo of Christ Constantin and Gohlke Delf from one set down and saved four match points in the second set at 4-5 to win 7-5 and 10-2 in the super tie break. The match turned out to be the best of the day and crowd was thrilled when Samir and his partner were broken twice in the first set and went down 2-6. They made magnificent come back in the second set as both sides held their serves till and Samir and partner were broken in the seventh game to trail 3-5 and were four match points down to make magnificent comeback with superb return of serves and play to make five games all and clinched the set at 7-5. They, then, went into super tiebreak decider where they raised their games to the highest levels and exhibited brilliant court craft to clinch the tiebreak at 10-2. Samir stated in special telephonic interview that he was very pleased to win the doubles title for the country and that he hoped that the government and ministry of sports would look into his appeal for financial help and acknowledge his achievement and provide funds for his future participation in the ITF events.
