Country is likely to be hit by power crisis again within a few days as payment of Rs 28 billion has not been made so far to the IPPs against outstanding dues. Ministry of Water and Power said that Federal government was to make payment of Rs 28 billion against outstanding dues. Ministry had given written assurance to advisory council of IPPs that dues amounting to Rs 28 billion would be paid by October, 15. Ministry of water and power authorities had confirmed that no payment had been made by ministry of finance under the head of IPPs; therefore, payment of outstanding dues has been withheld. On the other hand PEPCO had also curtailed the payments by 70 percent against daily payments. This has enhanced the chances of re-emerging of energy short fall. The water outflow from Mangla Dam stands at 19,000 cusec feet and electricity production from dam has dropped.
