PESHAWAR – In the wake of growing incidents of terrorism in the surroundings of Peshawar, the provincial government is likely to launch a limited operation against militants in the restive areas of Peshawar.

Following the repeated attacks on police check posts in Mattni and Shekhan area of Peshawar, the law enforcement agencies considering different options for launching operation as the last attack on Ghazi Abad Check Post has inflicted heavy losses upon the police in which SP rural also embraced Shahadat along with his five colleagues. 

The restive areas in the surroundings of Peshawar include Mattni, Badhbera and Shekhan areas, which are adjacent to Tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency. After launching attacks on these check post, militants easily making their way toward the lawless tribal area of Khyber Agency.

Sources said that in order to counter these frequent attacks, several meetings of police high-ups were held in which they considered different options including a joint operation of security forces and police.

A day earlier the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Mohammad Akbar Khan Hoti held a meeting with police officers in which he stressed effective intelligence network to identify the targeted areas of militants.

Police sources said that so far no decision has been taken to launch operation with the help of security forces, but he said if the situation turned out of control then the security forces would be called to launch joint operation with police forces.

It is worth mentioning here that militant’s brazen attacks on police check post in Ghazi Abad area has caused fear and panic among the residents as the incident also resulted killing of SP Khurshid Khan.
