LAHORE – PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif will contest the upcoming elections from the City.

The PML-N sources say after scrutinising names for party candidates in the rural areas of Punjab, the party leadership is tending to sort out candidates for the urban seats.

In the preliminary steps, the party is mulling the candidates for the 13 seats of Lahore for the upcoming elections. They say a wide ranging change in the name of party candidates for the City are expected this time round, while likelihood is there for Yousaf Abbas, son of Abbas Sharif, contesting the polls also for a City seat; however, for the provincial assembly.

“In case of seats adjustment with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the chances of which are bright after the JUI-F decision to restore the MMA minus this party, the PML-N may have to adjust one or two candidates of the JI, may be Liaquat Baloch and Farid Paracha, in the City, sources say.

However, sources say, it is certain that the three Sharifs will be facing their rivals in the City on Notational Assembly seats for which different constituencies are under consideration. Nawaz Sharif will contest elections from NA-120, where Bilal Yasin, his nephew, is the sitting MNA.

Similarly, Shahabz Sharif may contest election from NA-119 and his son Hamza Shahbaz from NA-123 where Hamza and Pervez Malik are the sitting MNAs, respectively. Malik Pervez will be fielded in any other constituency of the City, sources say.

Sources further claim that MNA Khawaja Saad Rafiq will retain the constituency of NA-125, and Bilal Yasin may be put on a provincial assembly seat, while decision about the others is pending. Sources say changes may come about according to the situation and scene developing near the polls.

They also say Nawaz Sharif will contest for another National Assembly seat in Hazara, while Shahbaz Sharif for one Punjab Assembly seat in Lahore and may be for two others outside the City. The final names of the candidates in the City have yet to be decided as return of party chief Nawaz Sharif from Italy is awaited, they add.

Sources confide that the party is all prepared to contest the elections eying them to be held by mid-April. The party is going to soon unveil the manifesto, while candidates okayed for elections in the rural areas, have been given a go-ahead to launch the campaign.

Sources say under the party decision, Hamza Shahbaz will continue to speak at the public meetings being arranged in various parts of Punjab as seat warmer for Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif who are scheduled to address huge public meetings after the Youm-e-Ashur.
