FAISALABAD - Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Hussain has urged the students to promote the habit of book reading.

He was addressing a seminar on education held at Faiz Ahmad Faiz Seminar Hall of the GCUF here on Tuesday.  Registrar Muhammad Ayub, Media Consultant Abid Kamalvi, Mrs Agha and Dr Tayyab also spoke on the occasion. The VC said that the book reading habit should be promoted amongst the university students to refurbish and update their knowledge and inquisitive their mental faculties, enabling them to compete at international level.

He stressed the need for equipping the youth with technical education based on science and technology to take the country to the new height of progress.  “The secret of uplift of any country is lying in the trained manpower having command over technical and scientific knowledge in this modern era”, he pointed out.  He said that books not only were repository of knowledge but also a gateway to the world of enlightenment.  Talking about the foreign educational scholarships, the GCUF VC urged the students to remove their deficiencies in the GRE/TOEFL and IELTS tests.

He pointed out that the Punjab govt was disbursing scholarships worth Rs10 billion under the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) across the province to financially assist the students.  He advised the students to make all-out efforts to explore their God gifted qualities and enhance them to prove themselves in their practical life.
