ISLAMABAD - Three staffers of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad, have won Fulbright PhD scholarship for 2013.
Ghulam Samad, research economist, Naseem Akhter, research economist, and Rafat Mahmood, staff economist, have been awarded this fellowship that is considered one of the most esteemed ones in the academic world. The Fulbright Scholarship is funded by the US Department of State and the Commission of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
The programme offers students’ grants to study, teach and conduct research abroad and for non-US citizens to come to the United States.
Samad would pursue his PhD on climate change issues in the context of Pakistan, Rifat on illegal trade, International Economics and Ms. Naseem would pursue her PhD in the field of Industrial Economics.
After the successful completion of their PhDs the staffers would contribute to policy formulation, design and its implementations in Pakistan, and contribute to keep the PIDE’s flag flying as a centre of excellence in Economics in Pakistan.
