Unusual payment to oil supplier costs CDA Rs7.5m

ISLAMABAD  - An unusual payment to a supplier of petrol and diesel has cost the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Rs 7.5 million.
Sources in the CDA told this agency that Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO), a directorate of CDA, had paid Rs 9.9 million to a contractor, Ali Auto Mobile Company, in advance for the supplies of petrol and diesel to the civic authority, adding the supplier had stopped the supply four months ago after supplying oil of around Rs 2.4 million.
“The contractors are normally paid by the CDA after the completion of assigned supplies or work but in this case, the contractor was paid in advance on political pressure,” the source said. The firm supplied oil worth Rs2.4 million and then halted the supplies, seizing the rest of money, the CDA official said, adding the authorities had sent many letters to the firm. The MPO directorate has sent a summery to get permission to register an FIR against the supplier and to halt all the functioning of the contractor as a punishment, the source said, adding Chairman CDA, Syed Tahir Shahbaz has been urged to hold an inquiry.
to investigate that why the contractor was paid in advance, while the civic authority was going through a financial crunch and it did not have enough money to pay utility bills and salaries of its employees.
