Punjab Literacy and Non-formal Education Minister Raja Rashid Hafeez has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government would look for new avenues of cooperation with Japan and other countries.
During his visit to Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Lahore office on Wednesday, Hafeez said that Japan has tremendous contributions towards education in Pakistan, which cannot be forgotten.
“Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been doing great work in field of non-formal basic education and we have to look for new horizons to cooperate in this education sector,” he added.
JICA Chief Advisor Chiho Ohashi appreciated the efforts of new government and its ambitious plans for non-formal basic education. She said that non-formal interventions benefit poor and marginalized communities.
“Many other countries including Bhutan and Bangladesh have benefited from skill-oriented non-formal education and Pakistan can achieve same in even in less time with fast track educational plans,” she said.
Chiho Ohashi further said that JICA is ready to cooperate with ministry of literacy and non-formal education. “We are happy that non-formal education department has framed first non-formal education policy which hints at very promising future for all partners involved,” she added.
