New plan afoot to control ongoing crime rate in provincial capital

Peshawar - Sixteen proclaimed offenders and 72 other suspects were arrested during search and strike operations in the provincial capital on Saturday, while a new crime control plan is also afoot under which Peshawar Police are to lay hands on those criminals who have been arrested and released from jails during the last one year.

A spokesman for the Peshawar Police said that Saturday’s raids were conducted in the precincts of Saddar, city, rural division and cantonment police stations. He said the ladies constables, army soldiers and BDU personnel also took parts in the operations in which sniffer dogs were also used.

Also, 4 Kalashnikovs, seven pistols, one M-16 rifle, 7kg charas and other drugs were also recovered from the arrestees.

Meanwhile, SSP Haroon Rasheed said that the capital city police had chalked out a strategy to control street crimes.

“Under the plan, we are identifying trouble points and carrying out security audit afresh. Those getting released from jails are also monitored and included in investigations of various cases. These measures have resulted in a decrease in crime rate during the last one week,” the official said.  He said that apart from other measures, nakabandis have also been established in various parts of the city where snap checking is being carried out to control the crime rate.

He said that data of the criminals arrested and released from prisons during last one year was also being compiled and teams have been formed to trace those people and include them in investigations. 

Alleged killer of 

inspector nabbed: 

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested the alleged killer of an inspector of the Counter Terrorism Department, who had been shot dead in his car outside the Peshawar Prison a few months ago.

An official said accused Mujib-ur-Rehman was arrested from Badaber area of Peshawar. Inspector Khushdil Khan of CTD died a few months ago in the firing incident outside the jail.
