SIALKOT - Global Breast Feeding week will be celebrated from September 16, to 20 here and a comprehensive plan has been prepared for creating awareness about breast-feeding among the women folk in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district. This was stated by Executive District Officer Health (EDO-H) Dr Zafar Awan while addressing a press conference at Sialkot Press Club on Sunday.Under the programme lady doctors, gynecologists and lady health workers will deliver special lectures in female educational educations about the importance of breast-feeding," he disclosed. The EDO pointed out that newborn mortality in Pakistan was 52 out 1,000 lives births which was static since last three decades, adding that newborn mortality rates could be reduced by 12 percent by adopting practice of early initiation of breast-feeding and exclusive breast-feeding for six months.He said that the celebration of the global breast feeding week would provide an opportunity to promote breast-feeding in district. The lady health workers programme in collaboration with UNICEF has chalked out a strategy to celebrate the week and organize seminars on breast-feeding at girls' colleges at district and tehsil level by involving schoolteachers and students, he added. Distinction: Two students of the Government Degree College for Women grabbed first and second positions in Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore (BISE) FA/FSc examination-2012. According to detail, Principal Miss Balqees Akhtar struggled hard and focused on the quality of education along with discipline among students and teachers. That's why, two students of the college Ammara Yousaf roll number 607164 obtained 951 marks while Atifa Mansoor roll number 607180 obtained 944 marks and stood first and second with gold and silver medals in FA/FSc exams conducted by BISE Lahore.
