LAHORE – At least two people sustained multiple burn injuries and goods and valuables worth Rs3.5 million were reduced to ashes when fire broke out at a renowned food outlet in the Defence police area late on Sunday.

“The workers, staffers and customers were successfully evacuated from the Karachi BBQ Hotel located inside the Market of Phase-I, Defence Housing Authority (DHA),” a Rescue 1122 firefighter said.

According to him, there were no proper exit signs and other fire safety arrangements around the building. Rescue teams of the Punjab Emergency Services and DHA reached the scene and launched the operation, safely evacuating the people trapped inside the building.

An eyewitness said two people, who are yet to be identified, suffered multiple injuries and were rushed to the Burn Unit of the Mayo Hospital. He believed the damage and loss could be controlled if there would have been proper safety measures inside and outside the building. The cause of fire was yet to ascertained until the filing of this report.
