LAHORE - Punjab Minerals Development Corporation (PUNJMIN) has revamped minerals mapping techniques especially in coal mining in order to ensure supply of coal for the production of energy.

The improved technique of remapping will also help Corporation increase the production of other valuable minerals in the province.

Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals Ch. Sher Ali Khan presided over a meeting here on Wednesday during which he said, as a part of restructuring and up-gradation of Mines & Minerals Department as well as to build capacity for exploring minerals on modern lines, decision has been taken to train engineers and research experts of the department in foreign institutes.

Secretary Corporation Zubair Kharal briefing the meeting said a coal power project of 300mw is being set up in Salt Range and coal mining work has been expedited to get more coal production for the plant.

He said the corporation is also exporting minerals like salt in value added shapes like salt lamps and other decoration pieces to India and other countries.

The corporation is also processing Gypsum to use it as a fertilizer in agriculture sector as well as fireclay mining and production of silica sand is also enhanced.

Minister Mines also asked about the problems of employees of the corporation and ensured their early redressal.
