BoR, OPC fine-tune steps to end expats woes

LAHORE - The Punjab Board of Revenue has decided to recommend disciplinary action against revenue officers showing laxity in timely deciding revenue-judicial cases of overseas Pakistanis. This was decided in a meeting held between Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti and Senior Member BoR Jawad Rafique Malik here on Friday.

Director General OPC Hassan Iqbal, Director Revenue Ishrat Niazi as well as officers concerned of the OPC and BoR were also present on the occasion. Mr Bhatti said that role of the BoR and revenue officers at district level is of great importance for prompt disposal of revenue-judicial cases of the overseas Pakistanis. He said that the BoR should ensure timely decision on all such cases. On the occasion, Jawad Rafique said that clear directives have already been issued to revenue officers across the province for early disposal of cases of overseas Pakistanis. However, performance of some districts staff is not up to the mark. It was also decided in the meeting that the BoR would send a formal request to Chief Secretary to hold Commissioners and DCOs conference of poor performing districts. The SMBR also gave directives to the Chief Settlement Commissioner and other officials of different districts for timely disposal of such cases. Matters pertaining to verification of power of attorneys of overseas Pakistanis from Embassies and High Commissions also came under discussion during the meeting.
