ISLAMABAD - Director Students Affairs of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Syed Zia ul Hassan Naqvi Thursday said developing the perception in every resident of the country, especially the youngsters, that all citizens of our homeland have equal rights for utilising the resources of the country was direly needed. Similarly, he maintained, everyone had equal responsibility to work for the progress, development and protection of the county. He was addressing a joint delegation of the postgraduate students of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) and Balochistan University. Syed Zia-ul-Hassan Naqvi added Pakistan is our homeland and as good relations among family members result in decreasing the miseries and despairs, similarly the youth of different parts of our county should regularly visit the cities, towns and underdeveloped rural areas of all the four provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to develop national unity and harmony. On arrival of Balochistan University students, high officials of the AIOU welcomed the delegation. Qasim Haider, Deputy Director, Institute of Educational Technology (IET), briefed the students that Allama Iqbal Open University was established under an Act of Parliament 1974. At the moment hundreds of Open Universities are working worldwide but Allama Iqbal Open University has the honour of being world's second largest University after United Kingdom's Open University (UKOU) and one of the world's 11 mega Universities. He informed. The AIOU gives admission to over 650,000 students every year from the country and Middle-East States, due to painstaking efforts of the workers of the university, AIOU will succeed to utilize Internet, FM Radio, Video Conferencing System and two satellite base TV Channels (which are going to be launched next year) as the medium of promoting knowledge, he Added. Through this initiative, a number of people would get benefit from AIOU in term of standard education. The delegates also watched the introductory movie of the university. The delegation also visited the radio, television studios and central library of the university. At the end concerning officer AIOU answered the questions of the guest students about the University's unique Educational System and its future Projects.
