Sincere, dedicated efforts for quality education stressed

RAWALPINDI - The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised a seminar regarding "Assessment of Teaching Quality in Higher Education: Significance and Constraints" here on Thursday. Prof. Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi, Advisor, Quality Assurance and Learning Innovations, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, was the chief guest on the occasion while the guest speaker was Director, Quality Assurance, NUST Air Commodore(r) Muhammad Ismail, who holds the responsibility of dealing with the matters concerning policies and programs for Quality Assurance/Enhancement in Higher Education. Muhammad Ismail deliberated a lecture upon the significance, modes and constraints of different factors regarding the quality assurance process and teacher assessments. Speaking on the occasion, he remarked, "The higher education in Pakistan lacks the international standard compatibility and competitiveness. The HEC has formed Quality Enhancement Cells with intensely focused approach to enhance the quality of higher education in Pakistan." He said that the improvement in the quality of education could only be accomplished with the sincere and dedicated efforts of the academia. Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi highlighted the Quality Assurance program of the Higher Education Commission. He said that quality is a dynamic concept. In order to attain equilibrium of quality enhancement assurance the curricula, standard of teachers as well as students and the learning environment should be of high quality. He added that the purpose of establishing Quality Enhancement cells in different public sector universities is to sensitize the academia about the importance of higher standards of education in the country. The seminar was organized in connection with the Workshop on Survey Research Methods. The QEC in pursuit of its objectives of dissemination of information and good practices conducted this workshop titled "Workshop on Survey Research Methods" from March 3, 2008 - April, 2008. The workshop was comprised of three technical sessions titled, 'Variable Characteristics and Measurement Techniques for Descriptive Analysis', 'Body Text Referencing, Footnotes and Bibliographical Referencing' and 'Statistical Analysis'. At the end, the university souvenirs were presented to the chief guest Riaz Qureshi and the resource persons of the workshop.
