Soldier dies in SWA checkpost attack

MAKIN (INP) - A soldier embraced martyrdom and three others sustained injuries when militants attacked a checkpost in Tehsil Laddah of South Waziristan Agency on Sunday. The security forces repulsed the militant attack with heavy artillery, killing three militants on the spot and injuring several others. Official sources said that attackers opened indiscriminate firing on the checkpost in early hours with automatic weapons, martyring a trooper and inuring three others deployed at the checkpoint. The injured were shifted to hospital. In retaliation, security forces killed three militants, whose dead bodies were lifted by their accomplices from the site, and injured several others were injured. On Saturday, the SWA administration held meeting with Mehsud elders wherein it was decided to start repatriation process of the Mehsud IDPs from April 30. However, defence analysts and others experts opined such incidents of violent attacks gave the message that Taliban-loyal fighters were still managing attacks on both soft and hard targets. Therefore, repatriation of IDPs to the Mehsud area will not be free of danger, they said.
