Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan announced that former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has accepted the offer of becoming Chief Selector of Pakistani Cricket team, Waqt News reported.
While addressing a press conference Khan said that the board is also looking at options for the new head coach.
“We are open for all options for the new head coach among both local and foreign coaches,” he said. “Some are engaged and some have refused the offer because of security reasons,” he said. “But some foreigner coaches have agreed to come to Pakistan. We will take final decision in the next 10 to 15 days.
“We are going to conduct a boot camp at Abbotabad under Army trainers for the team to enhance the fitness level of the team. Psychologist and food expert will also be with the team.”
The PCB Chairman added that Mushtaq Ahmad will replace Muhammad Akram as a head coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
“We have also started a bio-mechanics lab which had been closed for last eight years. We have contacted experts to run it. From now on, the cricket committee will consist only of cricketers,” he added.
While talking to the media, the new chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said it is an honour for him to serve Pakistani cricket in any form. “I am also thankful to board for giving me this opportunity. I will try my best to justify this duty.”
Inzamam also thanked the Afghan Cricket Board for allowed him to join his new role.
“The Board has accepted my proposal for my chief selection team. It includes a spinner, fast bowler and a batsman so we can cover all the angles of the game. Waseem Haider, Tauseef Ahmad and Wajaht ullah Wasti are the members of my team.
“The England tour is coming and I will try my best to select the best team, after evaluating the performance and fitness of players. I am hoping the board will let me work independently and for better results we will have to wait a bit. I will work alongside the Coach and Captain for the selection of the team.”
Inzamam said the selection committee, captain and coach would have to be on the same page for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.
On the question of Shahid Afridi, Inzamam replied that although he has not performed well in recent past but he was our star and he is our star.
“The process of team selection is a tough thing and I will try my best to fulfill it,” he concluded.
