ISLAMABAD - Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi who is on an official visit to China has met his Chinese counterpart Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong in Beijing and exchanged views on naval cooperation and regional security situation.

Pakistan Navy spokesperson said on Tuesday that issues relating to professional matters including bilateral naval collaboration and security environment in the Indian Ocean region were discussed during the meeting. The spokesperson further said that various avenues of cooperation between the two navies were also focused.

A comprehensive briefing on People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) was given to Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi.  Admiral Abbasi highlighted Pakistan’s commitment and contributions in the fight against terrorism including participation of the Pakistan Navy in the multinational taskforces against piracy and maritime terrorism.

PLAN commander lauded Pakistan Navy’s efforts and focused commitments in support of collaborative maritime security in the region.

Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong said that the Pakistan Navy was playing a pivotal role for maritime security and stability in the region, which had greatly helped in shaping a secure environment for freedom of navigation in the region.

Upon arrival at the PLAN Headquarters, Beijing, Admiral Abbasi was received by his counterpart Vice-Admiral Shen Jinlong.  A smartly turned out contingent of the PLAN presented him the guard of honour.

Meanwhile, Admiral Abbasi also met Deputy Administrator of the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, Xu Zhanbin at SASTIND Headquarters.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including collaboration in development of military industry were dilated upon.

The visit is expected to greatly augment the bilateral cooperation between both the countries in general and the navies in particular.
