BAJAUR AGENCY - Militants gunned down a senior member of a peace committee along with his son on a Pak-Afghan border area at tehsil Chamarkand in Bajaur Agency on Wednesday. A group of armed militants, stated to be over 20 in number, attacked a border check post in Nawa Pass area in tehsil Chamarkand, 48 kilometers north of Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency, and opened indiscriminate fire at the post. Resultantly, Afsar Khan, a senior member of Chamarkand peace committee, along with his son Sher Alam Khan, 25, was killed on the spot. Afsar Khan was known for his opposition to the militants in the area and in reaction, militants had threatened him and his family of grave consequences and thats why in the recent past, militants had also attacked his hosue with rockets, but he and his family had escaped it. The political administration of the agency while confirming the incident, said that Afsar Khan and his son Sher Alam were standing guard at a border post manned by volunteers of the peace committee when insurgents attacked them. Soon after the incident, security forces and volunteers of the peace committee launched a search operation in the area, however, no arrest was made till filing this report.
