Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film have released some stills to whet cinema-goers appetites ahead of the December release. One shows Daniel Craig (Mikael Blomkvist ) and Rooney Mara (Lisbeth Salander) locked in a small cottage in the fictional Swedish town of Hedestad where they are trying to crack a cold case into the mysterious disappearance and suspected murder of a 16-year-old girl from some 40 years ago. Journalist Blomkvist and private investigator Salander are seen here ploughing through old police reports, photographs and documents as they channel their skills to get to the bottom of it. In another still, Craigs character is seen taking photographs in the snow as he pieces together the jigsaw into the vanishing of Harriet Vanger, the niece of renowned businessman Henrik Vanger, who has developed a life-time obsession with discovering what happened to her. Salander is captured in the final frame released by distributors Columbia, will her intimidating facial piercings and severe-looking hair. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mara reveals that she auditions for the part for two months before director David Fincher agreed to give her the coveted role. The 26-year-old actress told the magazine of the arduous process: 'At that point I was just super frustrated. I was like, You have to decide. Either you think Im the girl or you dont. Theres not much more I can do to prove it to you.' Eventually, he made a decision. She added: 'David sat me down and gave me this long speech about the part. Then he handed me his iPad, and it had the press release on it. He said, 'Im prepared to send this out. You have half an hour to let me know if you want the part.' DM
