ISLAMABAD  - Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has sent inflated electricity bills this month to a number of its consumers in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad causing financial burden on them especially ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“I have received an electricity bill this month for the period from June 12 to July 26 (two months) payable on August 13. Instead of sending a monthly bill, the Company sent a combined bill and charged cost of electricity and taxes on units consumed in two months causing a financial loss of Rs.1,600,” Zubaida Begum, a poor consumer of Mohammadi Colony, Muslim Town told APP on Friday.

Giving further detail of the bill, she informed her monthly consumption of electricity was about 150 to 230 units for which she paid Rs.1,500 to Rs.2,000 per month. “But, now, I have received a bill of Rs.5,112 for the period from June 12 to July 26, 2012, which is very difficult to pay for a poor person like me,” she said.

She pointed out that the IESCO officials did not bother to record monthly reading of electricity meters installed at the residence and put entire burden on the consumers. She also visited Company’s office at Shakrial, Satellite area who advised her to pay the bill if she wanted a smooth electricity supply.
