DERA MURAD JAMALI - A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official was killed while defusing an explosive device without the safety suit in Dera Murad Jamali on Wednesday, reported a private TV channel.

Saboteurs had planted several explosive devices near Patt Feeder Canal in Dera Murad Jamali’s Adampur area. Police called the bomb disposal squad (BDS) after receiving information of the presence of the bombs in the area.

BDS Head Constable Punhal Khan Bangalzai successfully defused two bombs planted near the canal, but lost his life while trying to neutralise the third one, an eight-kilogram device.

He was performing his duties wearing a shalwar kameez and not a bomb-proof suit and any necessary precautions as the bomb disposal department had not provided that to him. DIG Police Sharjeel Kharal said that the terrorists had breached the canal and had placed landmines at different spots. “The terrorists had planted the landmines to carry out a terrorist attack. The BDS official sacrificed his life while foiling the terror bid,” Kharal said. The funeral of the deceased official was offered at Police Lines here and he was laid to rest with state honours.
