MULTAN -The Multan Metro Bus Project will be a special-person friendly initiative as special ramps are being constructed at all stations to offer the special persons easy approach to the stations.

Metro sources disclosed on Wednesday that the ramps would be used to bring the wheelchairs of the special persons to the platforms while special flooring tiles were also being installed for the visually impaired persons. The tiles will produce a different sound when the stick of a blind person will hit it, guiding him towards right path. Similarly, the wheelchairs of the special persons will go directly to the lift through ramps and they shall reach directly to the bus bay.

Meanwhile, the metro authority has acquired more land at People’s Colony area to widen the carriage way. Metro sources said that the construction of road had begun at this spot. Sources added that two special underpass were also being constructed to take pedestrians to the bus stations. The underpasses are being constructed at People’s Colony and Mumtazabad bus stations. Sources said that the People’s Colony underpass was complete while work on Mumtazabad underpass was underway. Sources added that escalators and lifts would be installed at both the underpasses to take the commuters to the stations.

ANTI-DENGUE DRIVE

The district government has launched a dengue awareness campaign under which pamphlets will be distributed and banners displayed carrying information on dengue. The district government has nominated Dr Ataur Rehman focal person of the campaign who has been tasked to go door to door and make the people aware of the hazard of the dengue outbreak and importance of precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, Dr Ataur Rehman visited different union councils of Multan along with his team and convinced people to adopt precautionary measures. He said that the district government launched different initiatives on war footings to win fight against dengue. He said that the dengue teams needed full support from the masses. “People should keep their houses and offices clean and dry. We can eliminate this diseases by adopting these tactics,” he added.
