GUJRAT-Speakers at a seminar stressed the need for instilling and promoting patriotism among the youth for a prosperous Pakistan.

“Pakistan is our identity and the centre of all our hopes and aspirations. We must promote patriotism by sowing the seed of Pakistaniat among the youth. We teach our students to do away with all baseless prejudices and develop the spirit of love and acceptance towards fellow countrymen,” University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum emphasised while addressing the participants. The seminar held at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) was part of the Independence Day’s celebrations.

A large number of students, UoG faculty members, deans, directors and HoDs attended the seminar.

Registrar Dr Tahir Aqil, Head of Department of History Dr Javed Haider Syed, Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, Consultant UoG-BIC Muhammad Haider Meraj, Chairperson Department of Information Technology Prof Mubashar Hussain, Chief Librarian Syed Ghulam Ali Kazim and student representatives Muhammad Arsalan and Abrar Hussain were among the guest speakers.

“We must work together to root out extremism from our society and renew our commitment to work for the betterment of our country,” Dr Zia said, adding that the UoG has been working on a number of community development and social entrepreneurship projects.

He also paid glowing tribute to those who lost their lives in various incidents of terrorism. “We salute our martyrs from various security institutions who sacrificed their lives to rid the country of the evil of terrorism,” the VC said.

Dr Thair Aqil said that economic prosperity hinges on quality education.

Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid said the youths must be prepared for leadership role in future. Prof Dr Javed Haider Syed, Muhammad Haider Meraj and Prof Mubashar Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
