HAFIZABAD-Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf admitted Wednesday that ‘reconciliatory policy’ of the PPP was main the cause behind the downfall of the party.

“It is a fact but under the given circumstances at that time we had no option but to adopt this policy with the PML-N to safeguard democracy in the country.”

Addressing the party workers here the other day, the PPP stalwart appealed to the party workers to shun their petty differences and reorganise the party at grass-roots level to materialise the vision of Chairperson Bilawal Zardari Bhutto.

Answering points raised by the party workers, Raja Pervaiz said that the difference of opinion would be welcomed but there should be no compromise on unity and friction in the party ranks would not be tolerated.

The ex-PM claimed that bogus and negative propaganda of corruption is being made against the PPP leaders. “Media trial of the PPP leaders has been carried out to achieve selfish motives by the opponents,” he pointed out. He categorically refuted the corruption allegations regarding rental power against him and added that had the allegations proved true he would have been in jail rather in Hafizabad to address the party workers.

Mr Ashraf said that present era is of media and admitted that the PML-N has better media managers than the PPP. “We would take measures to improve our media management to counter the fake and negative propaganda against the PPP leaders,” pledged.

He listened to the points raised by the workers including founding members of the party Muhammad Arshad Mehind and former Hafizabad DBA president Peer Muhammad Safdar Kharal, Muhammad Yasin Sandhu, Wasim Abbas Gujjar and others. He assured that they would recommend the nomination of committed and dedicated workers for different slots to forge greater unity among the workers so that the party could be revived of 1970 era and complete the mission of Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Banazir Bhutto.

The former premier told the workers that the chairperson Bilawal Zardari Bhutto has dissolved all the PPP organisations in the country as wants to nominate jiyalas so as to make the party strong and to fulfil Bhuttoism in the real sense. He assured the workers that the Coordination Committee would recommend the nomination of committed and sincere workers for different slots.

Later, while talking to the mediamen, Raja Pervaiz said that the defeat of PPP in the recently held elections in Azad Kashmir was due to pre-poll rigging by the PML-N.

Replying to a question, he said that the gulf between the workers and leaders would be bridged through re-organisation of the party. Replying to another question, he said that the PPP is party of workers, labourers, peasants and students and it always kept their interest in view while formulating policies.
