Murad Ali Shah takes oath as Sindh CM

After receiving majority votes on Thursday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Murad Ali Shah took his oath as the Sindh chief minister (CM) on Saturday, becoming the 29th CM of the province.

Acting Governor Agha Siraj Khan Durrani was supposed to administer the oath to the newly-elected chief minister, who will be serving as the chief executive for a second term, but couldn’t make it, so Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani administered the oath.

The ceremony was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, party’s MNAs and MPAs, diplomats, and representatives of the business community.

Murad was elected as the CM on Thursday by the Sindh Assembly. He bagged 97 votes against his opponent, Grand Democratic Alliance’s Shaharyar Mahar, who secured 61 votes.

Murad is now the 29th CM of Sindh since the creation of Pakistan and the 33rd CM since 1936 when Sindh was given the status of a separate province during British Colonial rule.
