A section of national English press has reported that Sindh Govt. has asked the water task force of the Friends of Democratic Pakistan to withdraw its advice calling upon the federal government to reconsider the Kalabagh dam project as it will open a Pandoras box and it is not in the interest of national unity. The shelving of Kalabagh dam in the face of massive problem of power and water shortages and closure of 1/3rd of our industrial base would be insane as Bhasha dam would need a minimum of 12 years and a maximum of 15 years to build if it is ever built due to several roadblocks. While Kalabagh dam would require half the time and money to build. What kind of national unity would be built sans Kalabagh dam. Perhaps Pakistan might be reduced to a failed state at the altar of illogical opposition of minority population of Pakistan comprising Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. What are they afraid of when even a veteran leader and a renowned engineer of KP calls Kalabagh dam as vital to meet the timely needs of water and cheap power in the country. DR.
