PESHAWAR - Peshawar High Court on Tuesday asked the government to block unregistered Sims in next fifteen days and present record of the losses the national exchequer is bearing in form of taxes just because of the use of illegal Sims.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice PHC Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and Justice Nisar Hussian heard the case of unregistered Sims filed by Mohammad Atif Haleem. He told the court that illegal Sims are mainly used in kidnapping, and despite clear cut directives to concerned quarters no action has so far been taken to stop the use of illegal Sims.

Chief Secretary KPK, Secretary Home Department, IG Police and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials were summoned for the hearing. The court asked the PTA officials to present data of Sims sold out in last five years within next fifteen days. Apart from that the court directed the police high-ups to present record of kidnapping cases, recovery of kidnapped people, details of the ransom amounts and losses the national exchequer is bearing just because of the illegal Sims.

The court directed the government to present mobile companies records operating in Pakistan and their income records as well.
