PPP may challenge Punjab voter lists in court

LAHORE  - The PPP is considering the option of challenging the new voter lists in Punjab ahead of the upcoming Local Bodies elections.
“The reshuffling of voters from one ward to another has been manipulated in such a way that it would ultimately benefit the PML-N candidates”, PPP’ central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo told reporters after chairing a party meeting on Tuesday.
He said his party was seriously considering exercising its right to challenge the new voter lists in the court of law. “We have reservations over the new delimitations as well”, he added.
Wattoo, however, affirmed that PPP would fully participate in the coming elections by fielding strong candidates.
He also said that his party was poised to win the polls and had completed the homework in this regard.
He said that PPP did not trust the Presiding Officers to be appointed by the Punjab government because these very officers had been found involved in rigging during the general elections.
Confident of his party’s success in the elections, Wattoo said that people would reject the PML-N because of its poor performance in the last six months.
“The so-called heavy mandate of the PML-N would stand exposed in the Local Bodies elections if they are transparent”, he maintained.
